Cuyabeno Lodge - Jungle
|
|
|
|
You will be hosted in conditions which would be both in harmony with the surrounding environment and attuned with the needs of the modern visitor.
Operating as an ethical eco-lodge, we work with local indigenous guides together with bilingual naturalist guides and have a close relationship with the local community, power our dining hall with solar panels and practice environmentally sensitive tourism in all aspects of our programs.
There is an incredible variety of Neotropical wildlife including river dolphins, tapirs, capybaras, caiman, anacondas, ocelots, monkeys and the infamous piranha.
Accomodations
The cabins are airy thatch roof designs spaced through a small opening in pristine Amazon Rainforest and flooded rainforest that for most of the year forms a peaceful glassy lake.
Adjacent to the cabanas is a spacious dining hall which serves up delicious Ecuadorian, Siona and International cuisine.
Here is a sample of what could be your stay !
Below is a 4-day sample itinerary for guests wanting to the Cuyabeno Lodge as their base to see the reserve.
Additional days can be added and itineraries/activities can be adjusted according to group interests. Families are encouraged and welcome. Special arrangements can be made for long-term visitors, student groups and researchers.
Day 1: Quito Lago Agrio El Puente Cocha Grande
Fly or drive over the Andes to the oil frontier town of Lago Agrio. Continue by private transportation to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve, El Puente. After a welcome orientation by the park guard, load your luggage onto a dug-out motorized canoe and follow the winding Cuyabeno River to Cocha Grande, the largest lagoon in the Cuyabeno reserve, also the site of the Cuyabeno Lodge. If the sun is still above the horizon, enjoy a late afternoon swim. Once the curtain of night falls you will silently head out onto the lagoon again by canoe this time in search of caiman, a close relative of crocodiles and alligators.
Day 2: Explore the Flooded forest via foot and canoe
Rise at dawn and if luck is on your side you will see fresh water dolphin streaking across the lagoon or a troupe of squirrel monkeys bouncing through the treetops. After breakfast a trek through terra firma forest with your Siona and naturalist guides to explore plants and wildlife, your Siona guide will teach you about the forest´s medicinal plants and local folklore. After lunch and a siesta you´ll take a trip by dugout canoe to the flooded igapo with macrolobium trees covered in abundant epiphytes to spot monkeys and birds.
Day 3: River Trip by Canoe
Rise at dawn to watch birds; look for toucans, parrots, herons, and hoatzins. Return to the Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast travel deeper into the reserve down the Cuyabeno River. Disembark for a short walk and a picnic lunch. In the late afternoon head back to the Lodge by canoe. Possibility to stop in the middle of the lagoon for a sunset swim. Tonight there is the option of a night hike: grab your flashlight and check-out the rainforest1s nocturnal critters such as translucent tree frogs, armadillos, kinkajous and fruitbats.
Day 4: Cuyabeno-Lago Agrio
Following an early breakfast journey up river to El Puente where our vehicle will take you back to Lago Agrio. Return to Quito either by bus or by plane.
